You can count the amount of premiere female comics that are commonly known in the entertainment culture on the fingers of one-hand. Whitney Cummings has risen to the top of that pile with her razor sharp humor, bold and courageous delivery but mostly because of her excellent original material. Whitney Cummings is funny, very funny.
#WE, the nation's largest empowerment campaign had a chance to be re-introduced to this now American icon this past weekend in L.A., and we were blown away how polished, original and how extremely funny she really is!
Whitney has high intelligence humor, a sharp tongue and a keen wit. She reminded us of a female George Carlin, or a female Bill Maher or Dennis Miller or even Brian Regan.
Yea.
She is THAT good. THAT funny!
When she got on the subject of the differences in the crazy things women and men do differently, we were overwhelmed with her insights, her strength and her bravery. She says what is funny and what she wants to say whether you like it or not. It is refreshing in the cancel culture crazy times of 2021 to especially hear a female comedian not tone it down or soft-peddle. And audiences seem to agree as all her shows sell out fast.
So #WE, the nation's largest empowerment campaign is bestowing its' first 2021 #WE Award to Whitney Cummings as she, and her material, together chronicle the very definition and essence of women empowerment.
Whitney Ann Cummings (born September 4, 1982) is an American stand-up comedian, actress, filmmaker, and podcaster. Her credits include one comedy album, four stand-up specials, three Comedy Central Roasts, and numerous television series in which she has served various roles including producer, director, showrunner, and actress.
A native of Washington, D.C., Cummings pursued a comedy career in Los Angeles after graduating from the University of Pennsylvania, where she had studied with the intention of becoming a journalist. After beginning standup in 2004, she secured regular appearances as a roundtable guest on Chelsea Lately. She subsequently created, produced, and starred in NBC's Whitney, a sitcom in which she portrayed a semi-fictionalized version of herself. The series ran for two seasons before being cancelled in 2013. Simultaneously, Cummings created the CBS sitcom 2 Broke Girls, which also began in 2011, and concluded in 2017.
Cummings released her first hour-long standup special, Money Shot, in 2010 on Comedy Central. She followed this with a second standup special for the network, entitled I Love You (2014). Her third special, I'm Your Girlfriend, was released on HBO in 2016. Beginning in 2018, Cummings served as a producer and writer for the ABC revival of Roseanne, but left the project prior to its cancellation. Cummings's fourth special, Can I Touch It?, premiered on Netflix in July 2019.
